Generation Tux listed Black Notch Lapel at $159 and Black Shawl Lapel at $149; complete package costs remain open. Ask each supplier to price the same pieces and dates.

What the listed prices include

Start with the pieces you need for your outfit. Zola's package discussion covers a jacket, pants, shirt and tie, then accessories to check. It also notes that some accessories cost extra. Write your chosen pieces on one list, and send that list to every supplier.

We checked these supplier pages on October 10, 2026. The prices describe the named listings on that date. They do not establish a national average or a complete order total.

Listed supplier prices checked October 10, 2026; complete order totals still need confirmation.

The Suits Unlimited page title advertised rentals from $139, while the page body listed Classic Tuxedo at $149. Use the named package's body price for this calculation.

Put both quotes on one worksheet

The Federal Trade Commission advises online shoppers to check the full cost, including shipping, handling, delivery and taxes. It also advises reading the terms of a deal. Use those checks for each rental quote, and record the quote date and event date above the amounts.

For each clothing line, write "included," an extra price, or "not listed yet." A blank amount stays open until the supplier answers. If you plan to use an item you already own, label it "own item" and confirm that the supplier allows that choice.

Use the same items and rental dates for both quotes; keep unknown costs open.
Quote lineQuote AQuote BQuestion to settle
Named package, jacket and pants______"Which pieces does this package price cover?"
Formal shirt______"Is the shirt included, and which style?"
Shoes______"What do rental shoes add to the price?"
Vest or cummerbund______"Is our chosen waist accessory included?"
Tie and pocket square______"Does the price include our chosen tie and pocket square?"
Studs, cufflinks and suspenders______"Which of these pieces cost extra?"
Mandatory handling or damage fee______"Which fees are required for this order?"
Delivery and return shipping______"What shipping charges apply to our dates and address?"
Promotion______"What discount does this order qualify for, and which pieces does it cover?"
Rush, extended rental or late return______"When does each charge apply, and what is the amount?"
Tax______"What tax will you add to this order?"

Add the package price once, then add the extra charges for your chosen items. Subtract a promotion only after the supplier confirms that your order qualifies. Ask for one itemized quote so the same shirt or accessory is not counted twice. Use two separate budget lines:

  • Known subtotal before tax:

package price plus chosen extras, confirmed mandatory fees and applicable shipping, minus a confirmed discount.

  • Still open:

unpriced pieces, tax and any unconfirmed fees. Record conditional charges with the event that makes each one apply.

If your dates require rush service or a longer rental, add the confirmed charge to your known subtotal. Keep possible late-return charges beside the return deadline.

Ask the supplier: "Could you send an itemized quote for this outfit and these dates? Please list all required fees and tax, plus the charges that apply only in certain cases." The written answer gives you one amount to compare and a separate list of conditions.

One outfit, one known subtotal

Example numbers: choose the Suits Unlimited Classic Tuxedo package and its rental shoe option from the October 10 source check. The six included pieces stay inside the package price. Add shoes once, with no assumed discount.

Calculated package-and-shoes subtotal, excluding tax and unconfirmed charges.
Selected lineAmount
Classic Tuxedo package$149
Rental shoes$30
Calculated known subtotal before tax and unconfirmed charges$179

Check the math: $149 plus $30 is $179. The calculated subtotal covers the selected package and shoes. It does not report a completed customer transaction.

Fees and tax are not listed yet for this example. Ask Suits Unlimited: "For the Classic Tuxedo package with shoes on our event date, what required fees and tax will you add?" Put the answer on the budget line. Get it in writing.

Check promotions and the return calendar

A discount needs its own written terms. Generation Tux's page checked October 10 advertised a free rental for wedding couples with five paid rentals in their wedding party. The collection page does not settle every eligible item or charge. Ask: "Which rental qualifies, what does the offer cover, and what happens if our paid rental count changes?"

Write the rental schedule beside the price. Suits Unlimited's page checked October 10 described pickup on the Thursday before the event and return the day after the event. Generation Tux described delivery 14 days ahead and return three days after the event. Confirm the exact dates and return method for your order.

Generation Tux also listed extra shipping costs for expedited shipping less than 16 days before the event. Its page said late returns may bring extra shipping costs. Those amounts are not listed yet in this comparison, so keep them open. Ask: "Does our order need expedited shipping, and what will a late return cost?"

The Federal Trade Commission recommends keeping order records, seller policies and communications. Save the quote with the supplier's delivery, cancellation and refund terms. Ask the supplier what happens if the event changes or an item does not fit. Use the written rental terms to settle those questions.

Your next step

Send the same outfit list and rental dates to each supplier, using the worksheet questions. Ask each supplier to return an itemized quote with all applicable costs and a separate list of conditional charges. Keep any unanswered line marked "not listed yet" so everyone can see what remains open.
